Should I keep to the same as the existing construction for my new house extension?
Most house extensions use traditional building methods for the walls and roof simply for ease of
installation by a local builder.
Some older homes are made of 9" solid bricks so it would be near impossible to follow the same
construction methods and meet compliance under the building regulations.
Some homes may be timber frame or solid stone. So, how far should you go in matching the same methods
of house construction for the new home extension?
My view is that it doesn't really matter. What concerns most planners and home extension designers or
architects is that the external appearance should match or even contrast respectfully with the existing
property. How it is made up doesn't really matter provided the design receives approval and the system
used is readily 'installable' by a local home extension builder.
The Home Extensions Company® specialise in single storey, one or two room,
contemporary house extensions (similar to conservatories or sun lounges), but with solid walls and
roofs, allowing you to enjoy the space 365 days a year. We can even create you a 2 or 3 metre opening at the
back or side of your house if existing openings do not exist.
Some home owners or architects want to experiment with the latest SIPP panels system they saw at the Home
Building show for example only to find out that the scheme is over budget and hardly any builders want to
price for the works simply because it is not traditionally built - food for thought!
